Torah Classes

Adult Studies

Rabbi Michael Joseph
Adult Studies Chairman: Bernie Zeldin

Tuesday Torah Study:

The repeated elements in the Temple Shir Shalom Adult Education schedule are equally exciting. Rabbi Joseph will continue his very popular Torah study course on Tuesday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am. Tuesday Torah Study presumes no knowledge of Hebrew and it is open to newcomers.

Shabbat Torah Study:

Shabbat morning Torah study at Temple Shir Shalom on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 10:00-11:00 am. The focus each session is on discussion of the Torah and Haftarah portions of the week, moving from the text itself to related issues in modern Jewish life. Again, no knowledge of Hebrew is required, and newcomers and visitors are always welcome.

Adult Education:

Meets Shabbat mornings after Shabbat Torah Study the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. The foucs is on learning the Jewish Lifecycles, issues of the day, and some hebrew. Again, this class is open to everyone including newcomers and no knowledge of Hebrew is needed.

Two Great Education Opportunities at Temple Shir Shalom

Temple Shir Shalom's most popular teacher will be offering "Jewish World News" this fall on alternate Wednesday evenings starting October 10. Bernie Zeldin will be leading discussion of condensed versions of articles by well-known Jewish authorities and authors on news events from around the world that affect Jewish concerns. These sessions will run from 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Please check the Temple website calendar for up-to-the-minute information.

For a new wrinkle in Jewish education at Temple Shir Shalom, try our "Hebrew Office Hours" on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30-6:00 pm, starting on September 26. Just drop in and Rabbi Joseph and tutor(s) will be on hand to help children and adults alike to learn the beauties of the Hebrew language. No appointments necessary. We do request a $5.00 voluntary contribution per session to help pay our tutor(s). This first series will meet Wednesdays, Sept. 26; Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; Nov. 7, 14.
