Rabbi Joseph
Many, many thanks to our Temple Shir Shalom Seder Committee for creating yet another wonderful Passover experience for our congregation and community. Among the nearly 100 participants this year were the associate pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Gainesville, and one of the lay leaders of the local Muslim com-munity.
Temple Shir Shalom uses a beautiful Haggadah that was created by its own Religious School students in a project sponsored by the JCNCF in 2007. This year, Rabbi Joseph supplemented the service with readings from the just published New American Haggadah, edited by Jonathan Safran Foer and Nathan Englander. The rabbi also intro-duced the symbolic use of a tomato on the Seder plate, to illustrate the struggle of Florida’s farm workers for fair pay and decent working conditions.
The Seder Committee was chaired this year by Vera Rabino, with help from Erica Bilsky, Pascale Bishop, Anna Jor- dan, Heather Karr, Irene Kellner, and Randy Kraft. Thanks also to Ibti Hijazi for another delicious catered dinner.
