Our Marching Maccabee Madness Hanukkah Adventure was EPIC!
We had two parallel universes, with three activities per universe, one for the littles and one for the bigs, and it was FUN!
The littles made chocolate gelt with sprinkles. They also made dreidels out of clay and even tried their hand at olive oil making. Many thanks to the owners of Buon Appetito in Alachua who allowed me to harvest what was left on their olive trees in front of their restaurant. Please do go over and have a pizza and thank them for their generosity!
The bigs made clay oil lamps and learned the difference between the Greek designs and the Jewish ones. They studied about the origins of gelt and created their own “coins” out of tin, and also tested their Hanukkah trivia with a game of JEWpardy.
We finished off our celebrations with a plate of latkes and dreidel shaped waffles. All kids went home with gifts of gelt, dreidels and other Hanukkah treats.
